How did you get into volleyball?
I didn't make the hockey team in high school, so my friend told me to try out for boys' volleyball instead. I got cut my freshman year.
How long have you been playing volleyball?
I made club volleyball my sophomore year and have been playing ever since. So, I've been playing for 26 years—though not as competitively as I get older.

How did you get into coaching?
My Club Coach asked me to Coach for the club when I graduated HS since I went to college in the area.
What do you enjoy most about coaching?
How each kid and team presents a unique challenge. It's an ever-changing puzzle, and the solution stems from a deep understanding of multiple disciplines such as physics, biomechanics, and behavioral psychology.
What’s your coaching style?
I think I'm a very demanding coach. I have high expectations for players but at the same time, I offer a lot of resources to help them meet those expectations - BUT only if players take the initiative to ask for them.
What’s one piece of advice you always give players?
Related to my last answer: Players need to take the initiative to ask questions and seek help as much as possible. Solutions don't fall on your lap. They need to be sought out, discussed, and practiced. The assumption that the objectives of a team practice is a substitute for individual skill practice is crazy. That's like saying I just need to attend class without doing any homework, projects, or studying and expect to ace all the exams and AP tests.
