Annika Cortez

2026 VAVA Alum

What years were you part of the club?

    I was apart of vava for my 17u and 18u years 

What originally drew you to join the club?
    What drew me to vava was the culture they have. The family feel that you get on and off the court was truly so special to me. Along with the girls were always so kind and the coach’s always had a way to crack a funny joke or put a smile on your face. 

What did being part of this club mean to you?
    I am happy to say that I was apart of vava for last 2 years. And these past 2 years have been more than amazing the family I have created and the skills I have sharped are all thanks to vava. And I am so happy to have had such an amazing club to get me to where I am today. 

What is your favorite memory from your time at VAVA?

    My favorite memory is the way I played in my final tournament with my 18s team this year at ECC. In those final games I truly swung out and had such an amazing time with the best girls.  

What have you been up to since graduating?
    Since leaving vava I am now going to go continue my volleyball career at McDaniel college where I will be majoring in psychology and minoring in nutrition.

How has volleyball stayed a part of your life?

    Volleyball has always been such a big part of my life since I was in 3rd grade. Volleyball has always been an escape a place to let loose and be myself. I love sport through and through. 


Favorite food?
    Hot Pot

Favorite movie/Tv show?
     Gossip Girl

Dogs or Cats? 
    Always cats as I have two 

Favorite color?
     If you know you know pink. I am a pink girly till the end of my road. My favorite is pink 


Morning person or night owl?
    Love and early start to my day so definitely a morning person 

Hobbies besides volleyball?
    Hobbies would be I love to paint and listen to music and always enjoy a good lift at the gym.
